As of one of Canada’s pre-eminent editorial photographers, O’Neill’s ongoing encounter with the world has kept him inspired, engaged and “endlessly amazed”.Garnering both critical acclaim, and numerous industry and humanitarian accolades for his work with The Toronto SUN, he travelled the world from 1987-2011 shooting both breaking news, as well as portraits, essays, professional sports, and international celebrities from the world of Film, Music, Theatre, Sports and Fashion.
A pioneer in the use of new equipment and technologies for digital photography in Canada, O’Neill was the first to shoot digital stills for live television, with client MuchMusic in 1998. This passion for innovation continues, with a creative, adaptive approach to the rigours of the production environment earning the trust of a prominent national client list that now includes BellMedia, Shaw Media, Rogers and Insight Productions.
As their Unit Photographer, both in-studio, and on-location across Canada, O’Neill manages a full range of needs (Unit, Advertising, Gallery, and Editorial), in addition to consulting on shooting spaces, and art direction for properties including MuchMusic Video Awards, Canadian Idol, So You Think You Can Dance Canada, Deal or No Deal Canada, Are You Smarter Than A Canadian 5th Grader?, Canada Sings, Way Off Broadway, and most recently, The Amazing Race Canada.
Mark lives in the Annapolis Valley in Nova Scotia, with life partner, Paula and their dogs Layla and Esther and cats Murray and Mr. Grant.
